From the Old World to the New
The Stone Oven story begins in a small coastal village between Greece and Turkey, where our grandfather Yiannis first learned to coax flavour from a wood-fired oven. He baked bread at dawn, rolled lamb kofta by hand, and treated every meal as a celebration. Those recipes — handwritten in a leather-bound notebook — crossed oceans when our family emigrated to Australia in the early 1980s.
Our parents kept the tradition alive in a modest kitchen in Sydney, feeding neighbours and friends with dishes that tasted of home: smoky charcoal-grilled meats, slow-risen dough topped with feta and za'atar, and salads dressed in nothing more than good olive oil, lemon, and sea salt.
When we discovered the Sunshine Coast — its warmth, its community, its love of honest food — we knew this was the place to finally share our family's recipes with the world. The Stone Oven Mediterranean Pizza & Grill is the result: a kitchen where every dough is house-made, every skewer is flame-grilled, and every plate carries the soul of the Mediterranean.
